He is risen!

  • Today is a glorious day, of many! I have a handful of days that I relish in the remembrance of – my wedding day, my son’s birth – but most importantly, today. Well, I mean, today a couple thousand years ago. It’s not because of the Easter-egg hunts, chocolates, or cute bunnies (though those things are wonderful), rather it’s because my Lord and Savior is risen!

So many of us tend to focus on Christ’s crucifixion, and unknowingly ignore or forget his resurrection. Jesus’ resurrection is the reason, the foundation, for our faith, for it says in 1st Corinthians 15:14, “and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is without foundation, and so is your faith.” His broken body, hanging still, covering our debt is exquisite, and so is Jesus’ conquering of death!

On Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, the Jewish high priest would enter into the Holy of Holies, past the veil, where the Ark of the Covenant lie, and sprinkle blood onto the mercy seat to atone for the sins of the Jewish people. If the priest was defiled by his own sin, he would be smitten dead upon entering. However, if he emerged alive, then the people of Israel would know their sins had been wiped out. This paints a beautiful picture of what God did for us! Jesus passed into the Holy of Holies, covering our sins with His everlasting, unfailing blood, and emerged 3 days later victorious! By His resurrection, we know our sins are forgiven by the pure and spotless Lamb, for He lives!

In the resurrection of Jesus’ body, is the resurrection of the church, and in scripture, the church of Jesus is also referred to as the body of Christ. And I assure you friends, brothers, sisters, that just as Jesus had physically risen from His tomb, that the church of Jesus is alive and well, and not to be found in any sepulcher.

1st Corinthians 15:21-23: For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man. For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ, the first-fruits; afterward, at His coming, the people of Christ.

We who believe on Him, too, will have everlasting life. And now that Jesus is risen,  you might ask, what is He doing? One of many promises is, He goes to prepare the perfect place for you in heaven – John 14:3. Also, he is interceding on our behalf, praying for us just as he did in the garden of Gethsemane. And He is also waiting for you and me, his bride, to come home and be with Him for all eternity. Jesus is in heaven, looking down on you and me, thinking thoughts of good, not of evil, to give us a future and a hope.

Praise the Lord for the hope we have, that no longer do we have to live in sin, in death, but are washed in a new life with Jesus, as He lives. I encourage you believers to continue to grow in your relationship with your risen Savior. And for those of you who don’t yet know the Lord, and who are reading this and realizing that nothing worldly seems to work, I pray, come to Jesus as He draws you in your heart, to His mercy. He alone is the way to the Father. He alone is the truth. He alone is the life. Amen.

    Happy Easter, folks!
